Metabase integration

Import saved questions, collections, and database connections from Metabase into Kaelio.

When you connect a Metabase instance as a data source, additional tabs become available for mapping databases and importing content.

Databases tab

The Databases tab shows all databases configured in your Metabase instance. Each Metabase database can be mapped to a Kaelio data source connection so that Kaelio understands which database backs each saved question.

Map your Metabase databases to Kaelio connections before importing saved questions. This ensures Kaelio can execute queries against the correct database.

Unmapped databases are highlighted so you can see which ones still need configuration.

Import tab

The Import tab lets you browse and select Metabase content to bring into Kaelio.

Browse Metabase collections and saved questions in the selection panel.

Select the items you want to import. You can select individual questions or entire collections.

Review the import summary showing what will be imported.

Click Save to store the import configuration, then trigger a sync to pull the content.

Syncing

After configuring your import selection, trigger a sync to pull the latest data from Metabase. The sync job performs the following actions:

  • Fetches metadata for selected saved questions and collections
  • Updates table and column definitions based on Metabase's schema
  • Imports question definitions for use in AI conversations

A progress indicator tracks the sync job. You can also add default tags to imported content for easier organization.
